The readjustment of learning schemes to the present social and economic conditions is worthy of consideration. E-learning
The unforeseen circumstances that hit the world at large, had a significant effect on the educational sector. School closures exposed the deficit of e-learning systems in Nigeria and persuaded the public and private sectors scurrying to provide students with alternative learning solutions when physical classes could not hold.
E-learning interventions at school level were embraced, with various schools using platforms suitable for their students. From low-technology platforms like WhatsApp and Telegram to more sophisticated platforms like Zoom, Google classrooms, Microsoft Teams, among others. However, e-learning has been faced with different kinds of bottlenecks, some of which are, poor network, high cost of data, and poor handling of course content, among others.
SHORTAGE OF ACADEMIC RESOURCE PERSONS
According to the Executive Secretary, Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Dr Hamid Bobboyi, has revealed that Nigeria had a shortage of 277, 537 teachers at the basic level. This is according to the 2018 Personnel Audit report on Public and Private Basic Education Schools in Nigeria. Hence, there is a need for more seasoned academic experts, in order to upscale and drive the educational sector.
